Breaking News: Iran's Supreme Leader Killed In Strikes

Iran’s Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei has been killed in US-Israeli strikes, according to Iranian state media. The announcement follows US President Donald Trump’s claim that Khamenei was killed in the joint operation. Iran has declared 40 days of public mourning and seven days of public holidays in response to his death The scale of the escalation is unprecedented, marking the second time in eight months the Trump administration has used direct force against the Islamic Republic. Hundreds of civilians have been killed and wounded in US-Israel strikes, Iran told the UN Security Council on Sunday. Meanwhile, retaliatory strikes have spread across at least six neighbouring countries, including attacks on Dubai International Airport. LIVE UPDATES ► ­

MIDDLE EAST LIVE: UN Security Council meeting in emergency session over Iran The UN Security Council is due to meet top of the hour in emergency session in the aftermath of major airstrikes across Iran by the United States and Israel. In retaliation, Tehran has launched its own attacks throughout the Middle East, with reports of strikes in Dubai, Doha, Bahrain and Kuwait – threatening to plunge the region into a broader conflict. US President Donald Trump has urged Iranians to "take over" the Government. UN chief António Guterres condemned the escalation, saying it undermines international peace and security.
