Iran’s Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei has been killed in US-Israeli strikes, according to Iranian state media. The announcement follows US President Donald Trump’s claim that Khamenei was killed in the joint operation. Iran has declared 40 days of public mourning and seven days of public holidays in response to his death The scale of the escalation is unprecedented, marking the second time in eight months the Trump administration has used direct force against the Islamic Republic. Hundreds of civilians have been killed and wounded in US-Israel strikes, Iran told the UN Security Council on Sunday.
